Every
one of our patients has an annual exam with Dr. Harlan.
Each year, the patient’s skin cancer risk and mole risks
will be re-evaluated at this time. If healthy skin maintenance
and control of skin problems require prescription products,
refillable prescriptions will be renewed yearly.
Patients are taught to be aware of their moles and watch for
changes. For example, change in a flat irregular mole that
is larger than a freckle, or for a “pimple” that
doesn’t heal. Patients read carefully our self exam information,
updates on sunscreen protection, and are repeatedly told that
sunburns cause cancer.
Our Dermatology Nurse Practitioners are Elaine Smith, ARNP
and Linda Schilling, ARNP. Licensed to diagnose and treat,
they help patients to get clear and stay improved with pre-cancerous
areas of sun damage, acne, psoriasis, eczema, unstable skin,
itching, nail problems, and staying free of nuisance skin
tags.
Acne is a disease that scars, physically and emotionally.
Our patients with active acne return every two months to six
months, and may receive changes in their prescriptions, and/or
physical treatments with dry ice slush/pressing out of comedones,
light sal-acid peels, Vitalize peels, microdermabrasion, intense
pulse light, and photodynamic therapy with Blue-U Light, and
Vbeam laser. Accutane patients are seen monthly. Once acne
and unstable skin is under good control, patients may be seen
yearly until prescription products are no longer needed.
Our Dermatology Nurse Practitioners, Elaine Smith and Linda
Schilling are expert at teaching patients to successfully
use and take advantage of non-prescription therapies for oily
skin, mild acne, dry skin and itching, and for psoriasis.
For patients concerned with holding off the “aging process”,
Linda and Elaine have extensive experience with teaching a
wide range of skin care products that work best when individually
tailored to the patient. They provide freshening peels with
Obagi Blue Peel, Intense Pulse Light rejuvenation, and Vbeam
laser rejuvenation.
Linda Schilling is certified by Collagen Corporation to provide
collagen touchups to acne scars and wrinkles.
Elaine Smith, specializes in diode laser and sclerotherapy
for spider veins.
Dr. Harlan performs all ablative laser work.
All elective cosmetic services are performed in the Dermatology
DDSC clinic under the direct supervision of Dr. Harlan.
